Recap: Accountability Lounge, Q3 Event in NYC
On July 15th, we hosted our very first KSJC Accountability Lounge and honestly? It was exactly the kind of energy we hoped to attract.
We met in the spacious bar area of Spritzenhaus33 but created a cozy space taking up two tables with a small but solid crew here in NYC. Some of us brought notebooks, some brought snacks and some just brought themselves - and that was enough! The vibe was casual but intentional. Kiara prepared a printed worksheet with space to write a few goals for the next three months and a couple options for habit tracking. A lot of us hadn’t done that in a while…
We talked about what we’re working on, what keeps getting in the way and what we want to feel proud of when we check back in. This event was mostly spent in English but from a complete beginner to a successful certificate holder of the JLPT’s N1, we really had the full spectrum of language learners! We floated back and forth between serious and silly - just like KSJ Club is meant to be.
A few themes came up:
Wanting to stay consistent with language learning
Feeling overwhelmed by resource options
Struggling with kanji
Trying to find motivation when there’s no external pressure (luckily that’s what we’re here for!)
We wrapped by having everyone write their Q3 goals on the attendance sheet, so we’d have something to check-in about with our next-quarter selves. Then we shared upcoming events, including our Anime & Mental Health panel on July 19 (which you should totally come to, by the way).
Overall? It was gentle, grounding and very KSJC. The kind of thing you don’t even realize you needed until you’re in the middle of it.
We’re thinking of making it a seasonal thing - something to anchor us every few months as we grow this little bilingual community together. And we’ll be doing one more on July 22nd for those who missed the first one.
And if you want to peek at the worksheet or join us next time, hop into our Discord or follow us on Instagram for updates.
Here’s to showing up gently but consistently. Let’s keep going.
